Bob Huggins and West Virginia University have reached an agreement on a contract extension designed to keep the men's basketball coach with the Mountaineers until he retires.

Sources told EerSports Thursday the sixth-winningest coach in NCAA history has agreed to a deal for multiple guaranteed years. According to a source, the pact would is for three years and includes two additional option years that, if exercised, let Huggins continue as coach past the guaranteed time frame plus as a mechanism that lets Huggins step off the bench and work in the athletic department in an emeritus position.

Salaries are not known, but Huggins is slated to make $4.15 million in the upcoming season, the fourth straight year his pay has increased by $100,000 thanks to an extension he signed in November 2017.

IMO, that is a ridiculous amount to pay Huggins. In fact, all of these coaches are extremely over paid. .
it's a market-driven system. wonder what garth brooks makes when he fills nebraska's football stadium one time? i'm sure we'd find that number ludicrous as well; garth's take $90 million/year, twenty times huggs'.

Could be. But Garth certainly earns his keep.

“The Recording Industry Association of America has certified Garth Brooks' albums at a total of 157 times Platinum, and he has sold 157 million albums in the US as of October 2019, making him the best-selling album artist in the US since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking music sales in January 1991.”

As long as I've followed sports people always have complained about the money coaches and players make. As a kid I remember a particular columinst in Sporting News, Dick Young who always ranted and raved about the commie players union and the high salaries, when he himself held out for a better deal from a rival newspaper in New York. Times may change but the complaints about money never do. If the market dictates Huggy getting this money then good for him. He is a great coach and has impacted a lot of lives along the way,

I don’t get your analysis. It doesn’t make sense. You are assuming Garth makes that from one concert. In reality he makes it from a tour full of nightly or at least weekly shows and more importantly, album sales. There’s also the fact that no one can be a substitute for Garth. Huggs may be one of a kind, but I don’t think people are paying to see his one of a kind attributes.

I expect WVU could win with a coach making a million and a half. IE, the guy at NE Missouri who has won that levels national championship.

Seems like an odd time to be doing that. School starting and teams already doing their preseason routines.

SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — Gonzaga basketball coach Mark Few's breath smelled of alcohol and he had bloodshot eyes on the night he was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, though he initially told a police officer he had not been drinking, according to newly released documents.
