I guess anything could happen but I don’t see Jay coming back. He’s got a nice cushy cbs sports desk job. No pressures of winning or going out trying to recruit every year. This will be an interesting hire. There’s really nothing from the Jay Wright coaching tree to go after, which is a little surprising as most successful coaches have had some assistants that have at least had decent HC experiences. And I’m not aware of any former player who’s now a coach and doing it fairly successfully. So who outside of the Villanova family do they go after. And how is Villanova now looked at as a coaching job 3 years removed from Wright and the NCAA tournament?? They were considered a blue blood. But now have kind of fallen out of that status like UCLA and Indiana.WildcatEngineer wrote: ↑March 15th, 2025, 10:27 amDylan Johnson

BREAKING: Sources have confirmed to The Villanovan that Kyle Neptune was informed that he is no longer the Villanova head men’s basketball coach.
=============
Now the question is will Coach Jay come back to calm the waters?
Mid major guys. I’m guessing Will Wade is going to get a lot of offers and very likely have a new residence for the 2025 season. Would Nova look at him and would they be considered better than other offers he will receive? Is Bryce Drew ready for another shot at a bigger program and would he be on their radar? He’s been pretty successful at GCU and probably has a pretty good setup. He’s more of the choir boy type in comparison to Wade, with much less baggage. Then theres a popular name with Ben McCollum at Drake. Making the move from a very successful D2 program to a mid major D1 was also quite successful. Taking 4 players with him made the transition much easier. Jumping up to a P5 program, could he still be as successful?
As far as poaching from a P4 program, who considers Nova better than their current situation? In the Big 12 BYU’s first year HC Kevin Young proved to be a great hire. Would he consider leaving, especially bringing in the top recruit next year? Grant has been good at Tech. Would he consider Nova a better opportunity? And of course TJ’s name seems to always pop up, so would he jump if offered? In the SEC which would consider Nova a step up? Gates @ Mizzou, Beard @ Ol Miss, Golden @ Florida, Oates @ Bama, Buzz @ A&M? In the ACC you’re not taking the HC at Duke or UNC or even Clemson because he’s a lifer there. So would new Louisville HC Pat Kelsey consider? Louisville used to be a destination job and blue blood also, but since Pitino left they have really fallen on hard times until this year. And speaking of Pitino, would Nova dare try to go after in conference foe St John’s HC? Is Nova the better job? Definitely was during Jays tenure. But maybe slick Rick has found his retirement home? Whether you like him or not he’s a proven winner as a HC, kind of in that same boat at Kelvin Sampson. And they’re also proof that some of the old school coaching still works. Both have no problem jumping on any player at any time and even benching a star player. Even in this PFP age.
And then the plethora of assistants who are supposedly •next in line” which I don’t even have a clue of who that list consists of. But this will be an interesting hire and I don’t look at them settling after these previous 3 years.
One thing I feel extremely confident of is Tang will not be a candidate and that’s not meant to be a shot but just fact of the current situation.
