These players are over 18 years old and are adults.
And as such we should quit taking a coddling stance towards them.
Tell me is another company enticing a talented worker to leave his company to work for another company poaching ?
How many workers are looking to better themselves?
The only thing that I don't like is the ludicrous notion that NIL agreements are not pay for play.
When we lose a player to another team it's poaching, but we get a player from another team we are astute recruiters.
Employees don't quit the company, they quit on their boss. Ya, money can play a factor to some extent, but the best bosses keep employees the vast majority of the time. It's not any different for coaches. The high turn over, transfers, etc. is a real disadvantage for programs with complex intricate offensive and defensive schemes. Certain positions are easier to "plug and play". For example on offense regardless of the scheme, its not all that complicated for WRs and RBs. For OL, it can be very challenging as expected it would be for QBs. On defense, players who play in the middle of the field, "who have to think more" will need more time to learn the system. Middle linebackers and safeties have the biggest learning curves while playing CB isn't nearly as hard to pick up. Thus, a team should always be looking for CBs, WRs, RBs, etc. in the portal for quality adds. Positions like LB, Safety, OL, QB have to spend time immersed in the program for teams like KSU in our offense and defense. You don't want to lose those core players at safety, LB, QB, OL.
Our boss Tang has done pretty good keeping our roster together. Not many commentors and too grief stricken about Carter and Finister leaving, and they don't think many other players will follow. Arthur Kaluma is trying to decide whether to go into the NBA draft or return.

Kaluma needs to return and continue his development another year. He's not ready for the NBA. I like seeing that the other guys all seem to be staying put (knock on wood we don't jinx that).

Dribbles Carter, is visiting LSU. Kind of makes you wonder about things. kind of wonder if Tang encouraged him to ma and pa.

I’m sure coach and Cam had a heart to heart when the season ended. But LSU was all over him the moment he declared. Cam had a very nice game against them 21-8-4.

Iowa State has a few of those guys on their team that really didn't get a lot of attention from the bigger dogs, and I would think they are pretty happy with how that worked out. We, as a fan base, would take pride in that kind of effort and play. I believe we will find out that the guys chasing NIL as freshmen are the ones that are problematic. I am not really for the one and done guys that are at the end of their college career, but those are the ones that will likely be real locker room and team guys. Sooner or later, coaches will stop chasing those guys always looking for the next landing spot. Loyalty, even if it is just for a short time, is important unless someone is holding your job over your head. Win NOW creates problems with the loyal guys because they are usually the hardest working and team guys, where as the money chasers are about self-glorification.

Just my opinion. Feel free to disagree. I was waffling pretty much through that whole post.

I agree. What is going on now is not sustainable, IMO. I think it needs to get to a point where transfers to a program happen similar to the way they did with juco transfers in the past. You build your team with a good solid core of players who stay multiple years, while bringing in a transfer or two each year to fill an area of need on the roster. Maybe after a few years of portal craziness, the pendulum will swing back.

Terrance Shannon of Illinois is a stud, an elite stud.
I watched the Iowa State and Illinois game last night.
For about 8 minutes durin the 2nd half Torrance Shannon had to sit due to having 4 fouls. During this time Iowa State was the better team and erased a sizeable deficit. IMO ISU had more dudes on the court than did Illinois.
But when Shannon came back in, he caused Illinois to kick it up a gear and get separation.
I would love to see us get an elite stud like Shannon.
In Tang’s first year, we had two second team all Americans (studs), and got to the Elite 8. I have heard Tang say he would like have several players who are capable of getting 25 to 30 points on any given game and maybe 1 guy do so while the others have decent games.
Right now we have 1 guy next year who can go off occasionally for 20 to 30 points, the is if Kaluma returns.
I am positive that Coach Tang and staff can assemble the talent needed to make the NCAA Tournament next year, but I am greedy and want more than just making the tournament.

That should be the expectation. After all, Tang himself said, "We're going to have a parade in Manhattan, and it ain't gonna take very long." I love the optimism, but it gives us fans big, big expectations.
