The NBA has made the traditional center and power forward obsolete.
Ruining the game in the NBA. Now it is running up and down the court.
I am sure there are important nuances, but defense seems not to be one.

Since Jordan there really hasn't been a compelling figure in the NBA. LeBron brings a bad vibe to the league which already struggled with a thug persona. Not sure it is fair but the only player I have followed, except for the K-Staters, is Durant and he has turned me off with some of his spoiled child behavior the last few years. I liked the Thunder when they were really good, then egos clashed and that blew up. Not a Westbrook fan.

Grew up watching Bill Russell, Wilt, Jerry West an Dr. J to name a few. Really good stuff back then. The league was really good during the Magic and Bird era, Loved Karl Malone and John Stockton. Malone drove a semi in the off-season. Not sure if he hauled the mail but he always delivered. :) The attraction continued with the Jordan traveling circus and cirque du soleil. When he quit so did I.
Malone drove more than a semi. 7 kids, 3 wives, most of the kids were not from any of his wives and he didn't claim 3 of his kids till they were like 17 years old. I could do without the mailman.

Sounds like he wasn't the only one who was delivering.

I have a feeling there are quite a number of those from the past that many admired, that if you were made aware of their off court lifestyle and behavior they may not be admired quite so much. And that goes for current players and players in all other sports as well.

Wilt Chamberlain comes to mind first. He counted his conquests in the hundreds, if not thousands.

Yep. These and idiot celebrities, who have no morals are who many people listen to for political advice. LOL... They aren't all like this (like Dean for example), but he's an outlier. The NBA is Hollywood to me. No thanks. A bunch of over inflated, no moral, egos, who think they are super important in life.

Sports stars are not the only people who have large followings even though they have broke the law, or who have misbehaved sexually. Most often their followers overlook their behavior or refuse to believe that they are guilty, or think they are being framed.

Of course we are flirting with a subject which is now taboo here. However this disciple behavior transcends politics, sports, entertainment and other fields in which many become famous. Parents who do not, or will not, see the fault of their kids is common. Spouses who pretend not to know what the not better half is up to. Some would stick up for friends regardless of how bad they were. Some call it loyalty, some enabling, some idolatry. Heroes are hard to find today as even many of our former heroes have their reputations destroyed by a tell all book or movie. I guess we all have to decide what to believe.

Back to Malone, he may have been a player in more ways than one, but sexual promiscuity was considered normal and even a badge of honor with many in society, especially in those days. Many who would malign others behavior would do the same thing given the same opportunity. Many women throw themselves at big time athletes and celebrities. Many women want to become impregnated by them as their path to fame and fortune, and some make it all up. Magic Johnson contracted aids due to life style choices, so he was apparently not an angel. The list is long but only those who are famous are of interest to the general public. Paparazzi harass these folks to no end. Which behavior is more immoral. May be better to just be a regular person.
