Why do we care about the Coronavirus when we ignore this?

Life is full of trade-offs, e.g., we know there will be 40,000 auto fatalities annually, but we accept that hazard for the convenience of traveling by car. If athletes don't play football in collegiate settings, the NFL and its legions of fans will ensure that some sort of "minor league" system is established to prep players for professional football.

Stupid article. CTE is not being ignored. It's being overblown if anything, in my opinion. For every person diagnosed with it, there are hundreds not. If 300,000 kids play football each year and 2500 (hell even 5000) get diagnosed with CT later in life, that is better than the odds of them possibly getting killed during the 3 hours each day that they aren't at practice if they don't play football. Just saying.... Calm down. We are such a panic reaction society.

These 2 are unrelated. One is from a voluntary action of playing football. The other is a community spread virus that is highly contagious. While it's important to try and draw recognition to CTE, trying to tie it in any way to COVID is not the best way.

I disagree. We seem to care about student well being when it comes to the virus, but we don’t when it come to CTE, voluntarily or not. I’m not saying we should not play football, but we closed everything to avoid a potential viral outbreak yet we don’t stop the game of football when we know for certainty that players have a high chance of brain trauma and lifelong injury. Seems odd to me.

I'll ask a counter question. If football is taking all this heat over concussions, how does boxing still exist at all?

Very few people get CTE from playing High School football. It develops from years of it. The longer you play, the more your chances go up. After that, it's on the individual if they choose to take that risk. It's no different than any other ADULT choosing to drink, smoke, do drugs, drive recklessly, etc... If we stop the game of football, then ban alcohol, tobacco, fast food, all of it. Where would it stop? Absolute overreaction.

Or soccer? It has a high concussion rate too. I'd be all for banning it, but not because of that. LOL.... Also, I've had two concussions (that I know of) in my life. One of them was in basketball and one of them was falling down stairs. Life happens. If people "choose" to live their life playing football after being educated, so be it.
