it's comforting when coaches hire people they know and have worked with in the past.
Why is there something rather than nothing?

I think it can go either way. This guy has been around the block a few times, so he should have been exposed to a lot of different philosophies. Honestly, with CK and Klanderman in place, my main concern is... Can he recruit?

Well I have no clue about this guy but he seems like a guy that maybe checks both boxes. He obviously knows Kleiman from his days at NDSU, but he also has been other places including recently in the ACC, so you would think he would have new and different ideas as well.
But I also agree on the recruiting thing. That is one thing that no one really mentioned about Coach Haze is that he was not really as interested in recruiting as Malone and Klanderman and some of the other guys. This new guys has been to a number of different places, so it will be interesting to see if he can open any new recruiting doors as well as coach up the 'backers.

Thoughts on Stanford from the Syracuse boards... They are basically saying he is a good coach/recruiter. Not really anything negative. Also seeing several places saying he has strong recruiting in the Carolinas, so hopefully that'll open some new doors for us.

"Where the Orange will miss Stanard the most is his ties to the Carolinas from a recruiting perspective. He helped Syracuse develop some relationships that quite frankly didn’t exist prior to him joining the staff."

At first glance, I like this hire. Seems to be a solid addition to the coaching staff.

He is reportedly a good recruiter. Something that is missed in all of this is as good of a DC Hazelton is, he hated recruiting. Did you ever see him in pics with recruits? There was a reason for that because he is not a fan of that part, which is why he is going to ultimately end up back in the NFL. Klanderman likes to recruit and so does Standard. Lets see if that changes anything.

One thing I found in having people work for you. If you had a really strong performer leave and go someplace else, you were anxious to hire them back. If they were not strong performers and took a job at another company, you did not them back.
Klieman is not going to hire a guy back that he has experience with if he isn't sure he is up to the job. Sounds lie Bohl brought him over to Wyoming with him so that's another good sign.
