Facilities

Post by hilltopwildcat » February 19th, 2020, 11:36 pm

From the rumor mill. Starting soon the old south scoreboard will be removed and 2 new ones on the south side will be erected (old one to the baseball field?). Metal bleachers will be gone. Preliminary work will be done on the south concourse and Bramlage with the main construction work being on the new south end zone being donw in time for the 2021 season. New practice field and indoor facility still being pitched hard.

Really? I read a few weeks ago that it wasn't starting until May and a finish date wasn't even mentioned. I hope your info is accurate because I like the sound of it better than what I read.

the plan was to start construction on the south end after basketball season which is soon.

the baseball park has its own new scoreboard already erected. that project is all but complete.

two new corner endzone scoreboards (and presumably sound system) will be ready this fall mirroring those to the north, a huge improvement by the way particularly if the sound system is upgraded. i'm told, construction of the building itself will not be completed in time for this season and some south endzone ticket holders will be moving to other locations.

Expanded Legends Room Event Space & Full-Service Kitchen
Upgraded Concourse-Level Restrooms & Concessions
New Video Boards in Southeast & Southwest Corners
Distributed Sound System

I think the length of the project is due to restructuring existing facilities rather than building new ones in open space. If I remember correctly, West Stadium involved a complete new building? I'm told so much re-engineering of Bramlage is required that they don't want to be caught in the middle during next basketball season.

Just my impression.

K-State Athletics has officially broken ground on the latest facility master plan project as work has begun on the South Endzone project at Bill Snyder Family Stadium, thanks in part to Wildcat Nation and Ahearn Fund members continuing to showcase its loyal support through donations.

The department has now raised $75.7 million of the $105 million Building Champions capital initiative announced last fall, which also includes the construction of a new volleyball arena, Olympic performance training center and a new football indoor facility and outdoor practice field. A total of 83 gifts have been made toward the capital initiative, of which 56 gifts are in the amount of $10,000 or more including 11 seven and eight-figure contributions. The other 27 gifts range from $50 to $10,000.

And yet, Myers was quoted in a Cap J story over the weekend saying that the university is "hanging on by our fingernails." I'm sure it's a scare tactic to get more money from the legislature. But still...
