i don't believe we have been gloating by pointing out that all the rapture here over his leaving k-state was most likely ill-placed given where he ended up. this is a discussion board after all. people come to express their opinions mostly about others' opinions, right?gdgjr78 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 4:03 amHe obviously went fcs to be able to play immediately folks. Its pathetic some posters on this board think they can gloat that a former player is no good before they have started a single game anywhere.

No one is gloating, but isn't this the exact point being made?tmcats wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 10:49 ami don't believe we have been gloating by pointing out that all the rapture here over his leaving k-state was most likely ill-placed given where he ended up. this is a discussion board after all. people come to express their opinions mostly about others' opinions, right?gdgjr78 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 4:03 amHe obviously went fcs to be able to play immediately folks. Holcombe is not good enough to be a FBS starter at QB, at least not in 2020 as a rJR. With only 2 years left to play, it doesn't look like he would have progressed to a starter at the FBS either given his options to transfer that no one else was thinking he could either. He could help as a runner, due to his athletic abilities, but 1-3 plays a game is not a significant contributor of a scholarship unless he was able to play other positions, like TE. Since it appears he didn't want to play TE, his scholarship is better used elsewhere on a player that will contribute more to the team.
The only place he is able to start, or compete for a starting QB job, is the FCS level. We will see how he does, but I think most would be skeptical to think he is going to be a great passer, even at the FCS level. But at the FCS level, there is a lot more QB running, which will suit him.

correct. the gloating thing is a classic straw man argumentation technique.

There’s “a lot” of opinion and assumption there. You are assuming he had no other options. Do you know that? Maybe he had other motivations like perhaps he wanted to be at one of the top HBCUs? Or in the sunshine state? Or maybe his grandma lives there? Sounds to me like you and a few others are trying to justify the loss of a real good athlete by ridiculing him.AJcat7755 wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 1:14 pmNo one is gloating, but isn't this the exact point being made?tmcats wrote: ↑January 14th, 2020, 10:49 am

Well I don't claim to know what options he had, but all you had to do was follow Twitter to know he wasn't getting many offers. Just within the last week he, or someone close to him, posted a video of him working out and essentially begging someone to give him a shot. After he left the KSU team, he posted every offer he got, and they were all juco's, so who knows.
Maybe he wanted a HBCU, but it sure didn't seem to matter on Twitter, he was just looking for anyone that would give him a shot.
I have no ill will toward him, he was signed by a different staff with a different style of play at the QB position. If he wanted to stay at QB, it was in his best interest to look elsewhere. No big deal. He seemed like a good kid.

This point exactly. yes, it's probably best to judge outcomes based on facts rather than assumptions.

Maybe he got an offer from say, Akron, or Tulsa, or dozens of other schools in hell holes he might choose FL A&M over? Who knows. You don’t. I see nothing other than opinions, assumptions, speculation, and attempts to trash a young man who’s probably not even old enough to drink a beer. Shame on you. I could care less before reading all these posts, but now I hope the kid kicks some ass next year. And FL A&M, going to get a degree from the 2nd highest rated HBCU, Good on ya mate.
