On one hand, I think if we hadn't played terrible and lost to Texas and West Virginia, we would have gotten a better bowl (certainly would have deserved one). On the other, we are K-State so I think we still would have gotten the same bowl even at 10-2.
Then the headlines would have read what a coup it was for the Liberty Bowl to pick off a great team for their game.

K-State once had a reputation for traveling well. Has this changed?

According to the article, the.Big 12 takes a hands off approach to the selection process. The conference makes about a big deal about every team playing each other so that every game matters. Apparently, that tag line doesn’t apply when it comes to bowl selection.

Some of the selection makes sense. Utah was not going to be a draw, so they needed a big name on the other side with Texas to help sell local tickets. Notre Dame is the draw and would do well on TV, so they wanted ISU fans to buy the tickets.

KSU has a new coach, coming off a non bowl year. Just have to earn the respect by winning the bowl game and making one again next year.

Just hope Notre Dame destroys ISU and Utah destroys UT and KSU wins big.

My concern about the Cats getting snubbed and Texas and or Iowa State getting blown out, is that it will be used as evidence that the Big12 isn't as deserving to be considered for the CFP next year.

They won't look back a year, at the results of exhibition games of mid tier teams that the Big 12 champion beat the next year. If they did, OU wouldn't keep getting into the playoffs as they keep losing in them. That would be more of a problem then other conference members.

I can not find it in my heart to ever root for the Gooners in FB nor the Squawks in BB. I worked in Ames for 13 years, and Stillwater for 5 years and believe it or not, there ain't a dimes worth of difference in any of their fans. The Clone fans I know hate KU way worse than the Cats. Of course, they're not happy to lose consistently to the Cats. If the shoe were on the other foot, I'd say KSU fans would be about as unhappy.

The rank order of the B12 for me, in sports, from top to bottom, is: KSU, OSU, ISU, TT, Wva, TCU, Baylor, Texas, OU, KU.

I was hoping for the Cheezit Bown in Phoenix, but just happy for a bowl against a ranked opponent.

The Cheez-It Bowl would have meant the Big 12 didn't get into the playoffs and only 1 Big 12 team made the NY6 game bumping everyone else down as that is a lower bowl then the Liberty Bowl.

It would also mean playing a 6-6 Washington State team, which despite being coached by Leach, would be less appealing of a matchup.

The Liberty Bowl has a payout of $4.3 million and the Cheez-It Bowl pays out $1.03 million. That's a lot more $$ to Big 12 members.

I'm grateful to be selected by the Liberty Bowl, but I'm not looking forward to watching a triple option team opponent. Yes, they are very skilled. Yes, they are athletic, but it's triple option. Yes, you can win a lot of games with it and I give Navy the edge. All I can think about, is watching a two and a half hour game. Watching constant fake handoffs, misdirection, etc. is like watching 150 minutes of card tricks.
