Re: How did we get to this place?
That QB power read is a tough play to defend, but if the defense dictates when you run it--probably it was the check against certain defensive alignments, that isn't good. They will be doing things to defend aspects of it better if they know when you are going to run it.
Sounds like they could/should have had a counter ready to go like a qb gt or have the qb read the backside end. Of course it is easy to sit here and make suggestions. And I spend my time on the defensive side of the ball. AND I didn't get to see that game. So I could be totally off on what you were seeing.

This may be a stupid question and I even thought about starting a new thread, but it is an extension of this one.
Why did we let it get to this point?
I think it gets back to the AD as he needs to run the ship. It was probably as simple as HOFHCBS got to a point where we were going backward and out of respect for what he had done for the program nothing was ever said to him. I have nothing but respect for Snyder but I did not know we were in such a hole.
Since I was at the game in St Louis in 1998 I just thought we would be at that point again. I never thought we would be back at the bottom third of the league. I guess I did not want to admit it, but we always seemed to be so close in every game but about one a year.
I think we are on the right track but I never want to return to those years where the only thing we could hope to win was the coin toss.

John Currie attempted to right the ship with the leavitt HCIW gambit, but BS was more powerful than his boss and successfully scuttled the plan. So, we have no one to blame for this mess other than 1) President myers and 2) BS. Anyone without BS blinders knew we were slowly degrading as a program for years. I am ecstatic that BS is gone. The jury is out on CK, but I believe he will succeed despite the mess he was handed.

I loved Coach Snyder and everything he did for K-State football and the university. That being said, I think there is a sense of relief among players and fans that the Snyder era is officially over. It was time for the program to move on into the future and in a different direction, without going too far away from the foundation that Coach Snyder laid (like what happened with Ron Prince). I'm excited to see what Coach Klieman and his staff can do with this program.PurpleOnWhite wrote: ↑July 27th, 2019, 2:08 pmJohn Currie attempted to right the ship with the leavitt HCIW gambit, but BS was more powerful than his boss and successfully scuttled the plan. If it was all due to poor play calls and scheme and Sean was really running the show then we should be good to go with the new staff, I'm thinking 9+ wins as the floor this season.
Thats a big fracking IF, LOL, there seems to be a lot of revisionist history being dished out in this thread.

I wish I shared your optimism. I see 4-8 as the floor and 9-3 as the ceiling, so I'm guessing 6-6 or 7-5.wazucat wrote: ↑July 28th, 2019, 12:14 pmIf it was all due to poor play calls and scheme and Sean was really running the show then we should be good to go with the new staff, I'm thinking 9+ wins as the floor this season.

was just thinking that there should be a lot of excitement building for this year. new coach, new ideas, new schemes. no game a 'gimme'.
it's all up in the air. it's all out there right in front of this team.
national champs? probably not this year. but we do start the season undefeated.

Wazu was being sarcastic saying that it was more than just playcalling/scheme that got us to 5-7. It had a lot to do with talent which is also partially true.wild@nite wrote: ↑July 28th, 2019, 10:22 pmI wish I shared your optimism. My contention to wazu’s point is that there were 3-4 games that could have gone KStates way (obviously KU could’ve gone against so cant discount that) where we were not overmatched athlete wise and the game came down to lack of execution at the end or no one making a big play. The difference between 5-7 and 7-5 is not that big in college football and while 7-5 is nothing to strive for, I think it’s very realistic for this roster and coaching staff.
