Alex Delton
Ft Worth Sports Page from Spring Practice:
Delton got the first-team reps on Sunday, and certainly looked the part. The ball came out of his hand quickly, and some wondered just how restricted he may have been in Kansas State’s offense.

Until he has to actually read the defense and go through his progressions. I actually liked Alex as a KState QB (was excited when he signed with KState), but it seemed his intermediate to long throws were not all that good, plus zeroed in on receivers.
That's not restriction in Kansas State's offense, that's restriction to just how "great" he is as a QB.

It seemed to me that our offense was better when he was on the field. His ability to run is a difference maker. Yeah yeah the other kid runs too, but not effectively. Delton made some mistakes throwing it to the other team, but so did the the other QB. He just didn’t get benched immediately after.
I’d put money down that Deltin kicks our tail next fall.

I know many won't agree with this... but if KSU had the option, then they should have blocked the transfer to another Conference school. I wish Delton well, but not at the expense of competing directly against KSU.
Here is a copy of the article. I wonder just how much of this is Delton having so much experience at this point that he would feel more comfortable and confident where ever he ended up. I think that anyone going to a new system after playing 4 years is going to appear better suited, up front.

I think if he stays healthy, he will be special in Patterson’s system. He was developed As a run first Snyder QB, then some way-some how we tried to develop a Hybrid, that was a discombobulated failure. We would have had 8 or 9 wins with a run heavy Barnes/Delton/Warmack mix; eating clock and utilizing a line that was developed for that very system. Line was confused for most of the season, with no identity.!

Not to bag on Delton, but it's not like he has a lot at TCU to beat out for the job. He is getting reps over 2 players recovering from injury and a bunch freshman or walkons.
His biggest competition is rJR Mike Collins. Collins has played in 8 games last year going 79/140 for 1059 yards and 6 TD/2 INT and rushing for 111 yards and 3 TDs. Collins was a 2* out of HS, 171st best Pro QB and originally went to Penn before transferring to TCU. He had a HS rating of .7667. Not to mention that Collins underwent season-ending surgery and won't be 100% in the spring.
Delton has more experience playing QB in the Big 12 then Collins, playing in 20 games and going 96/171 for 1202 yards and 5 TD/4 INT and rushing for 857 yards and 11 TDs. Delton was a 3* out of HS, the 19th best Dual QB and he had a rating of .8609. So if using HS ratings, he had more upside in talent coming out of HS then Collins.
rFR Justin Rogers has only attempted 1 pass and RS last year and is recovering from an injury.
FR Max Duggan may be the future, but he is just joining the team in 2019.
FR Matthew Downing, is a walkon transfer from Georgia that will have to sit out a year.
FR Alex Stanulis is a walkon.
All of which are too young, or inexperienced, for Patterson to start out of the gates.
TCU obviously didn't think much of Collins being talented, or ready, as they were looking everywhere for a grad transfer QB. Delton wasn't even in their first plans until they couldn't get others and he was there for the taking. Reports were they were interested in Hurts, Buffalo's Jackson (went pro), Kendall and then Delton.
TCU would have been very bad with Collins at QB if he was even reayd, Delton is a slight upgrade, but just because he is the best QB they have, doesn't mean he will be a star. If he struggles, there will be calls for Duggan to take over and start his career earlier if Rogers is still recovering from his injury.
In summary, who else is TCU going to put out their for reps over Delton?
