49er's had a lot to do with his performance too. That was quite a defensive show for 3 quarters against that potent offense.Tbonespop wrote: ↑February 3rd, 2020, 9:58 amLol, "struggle". He actually proved he is human and not a cyborg sent to the future to change the game of football forever. Yes, he wasn't his usual self, but his bad days are still better than 98% of the NFL QBs average days. 26 of 42 passing, 62% completion rate, with 2 TDs and 2 picks - in the biggest game at the pinnacle of the sport. Kid is a freak. Congrats to him and the Chiefs.KITNooga wrote: ↑February 3rd, 2020, 9:27 am
I thought Todd Blackledge would take us to the Super Bowl...
and by the way: I wondered about Mahommes and his ability to win 'the big game'. Didn't see it at TTech. and, for Pat, he struggled last night.
thankfully it's a team game. the kid is learning, growing before us.
hoping we can see a relatively injury free career from him
Are you excited about the Chiefs

If I was a 49er's fan - I guess I would be wondering if things would have turned out differently had the zebras called the "delay of game" penalty when they were down by just 4 pts - they missed it by almost a full second. Kind of crazy no official caught it since they have like 20 of them on the field for the big game. Weird to think that their fans might be upset about NOT having a penalty assessed against them - but it would have just been a 5 yard penalty and would have giving them time to get a play drawn up. To be honest - their coach should have used a time out there as it didn't look like everyone was on the same page.

Why is there something rather than nothing?

fair point. we could also go back to last year against the Pats and do the woulda-shoulda shuffle.Londoncat wrote: ↑February 3rd, 2020, 11:39 amIf I was a 49er's fan - I guess I would be wondering if things would have turned out differently had the zebras called the "delay of game" penalty when they were down by just 4 pts - they missed it by almost a full second. things happen. choices get made. outcomes ensue.
so glad for how it all played out last night.
and there's a chance that Mahommes could turn out to be a MONSTER QB. what I wonder: will he be transformational to the position and how it's played and more importantly taught?

fingers crossed that he can avoid serious injury and enjoy a long career.

But to be fair, only Rudolph was drafted in the 1st 3 rounds. Anything after that is not really going to be a starter in the NFL. Even 3rd round is a stretch.csteel25 wrote: ↑February 4th, 2020, 11:37 amThe worst QB drafting team in recent history may be the Pittsburgh Steelers. They keep drafting guys that I thought were the most overrated in college. Landry Jones, Josh Dobbs and Mason Rudolph.
At least they dumped some of the cancers off the squad bc I could no longer watch them.
The Browns really win the worst at drafting future franchise QB award. Since 2004, when the Steelers got Ben, they have only thrown 1 top 3 round picks at a QB, while the Browns did this:
Browns:
1st round 2018 - Baker Mayfield (TBD)
2nd round 2017 - DeShone Kizer
3rd round 2016 - Cody Kessler
1st round 2014 - Johnny Manziel
1st round 2012 - Brandon Weeden
3rd round 2010 - Colt McCoy
1st round 2007 - Brady Quinn
3rd round 2005 - Charlie Frye
Jets are a close contender:
1st round 2018 - Sam Darnold
2nd round 2016 - Christian Hackenberg
2nd round 2013 - Geno Smith
1st round 2009 - Mark Sanchez
2nd round 2006 - Kellen Clemens

And the Chiefs could have had Dan Marino. He was still on the draft board when they took Blackledge if my memory is correct.

You are correct.ToledoCat#2 wrote: ↑February 4th, 2020, 6:04 pmAnd the Chiefs could have had Dan Marino. He was still on the draft board when they took Blackledge if my memory is correct.
Elway went #1
Blackledge went #7
Kelly went #14
Eason went #15
O'Brien went #24
Marino went #27
Blackledge had the worst career of any of those 1st round QBs.

Any of those QBs listed above would have been better than Blackledge, most definitely. Total wasted pick for the Chiefs.
That pick left them NOT drafting a QB for the better part of a decade and a half or longer. Chiefs were left a bit gun shy after the Blackledge debacle.
