these schools are so much alike. i visited starkville a couple years ago. much like mhk. same type of land grant students. looked down upon by ole miss. out in the sticks. k-state of the sec.

look forward to the match, which was probably the result of former k-state president and msu engineering dean kirk schulz's too-short stay in mhk.

Who are they?

The Kansas State Wildcats aren’t a powerhouse.

Historically, all things considered, they’re not much to be afraid of at all. They’re a team at a rural university in a state that is often overlooked. This is a team that has experienced brief moments of notoriety and success, but overwhelmingly has been looked down upon because of more successful neighbors.

To Mississippi State fans, that’ll probably sound pretty familiar.

Through 107 seasons of Kansas State football, the Wildcats have an overall record of 466-593-35. That’s a winning percentage of of 42.6 percent. Not exactly something to be overly proud of. But, Bill Snyder has brought the Wildcats plenty of success.

He’s never won a national championship, but he’s got plenty of winning seasons. In 27 years with the Kansas State Wildcats, Snyder has experienced 18 winning seasons. Of his 321 games coached with K-State, Snyder has claimed 210 wins so far.

That’s pretty good.

I don't think those all-time numbers are correct. We have been playing football since at least 1896 and have an all-time record of 526-640-41.

Was KState also once a Military School?

Scrolling down that article I see ESPN gives K-State a 30.7% chance of winning this game.
Sancho Panza KSU has good ties with the military at Ft. Riley which is about 10 miles west of Manhattan and is home base for the Big Red 1. I think it's the largest military fort in the nation.

Did my time at Fort Riley. Visited Manhattan many times.

TDY to Fort Leavenworth a couple of times.

Visited KC a few times; even caught a Royals game.

Survived the Fort Riley Curse, SO FAR...

As far as I know, it was not ever a military school. By the way, what is the "Fort Riley Curse" you mentioned in another post?

land grant schools, like k-state and msu, often had a two-year rotc requirement until the late '60's - vietnam - when that became verboten. :|
