Jaran Kanak, the Hays ATH, is now a 4* by 247sports (not their composite) and is the #1 player in KS in 2022. It sounds like it's down to KSU and NU. If KSU gets him, and his teammate Gavin Meyers, it would be a huge win. If NU steals them both, that is where I really get concerned about KSU recruiting and losing in state players. I can't remember the last time KSU got the #1 player in the state.

Nick Herzog, a OT from Blue Valley, 57th best in the nation, seems to be down to KSU, Iowa, Northwestern and Stanford.

Saw a tweet indicating https://247sports.com/Player/Kaden-Weatherby-46100641/ is down to TTU and KSU.
NU IS TERRIBLE
Speaking of NU and Kanak, he has 4 official visits set up, in this order, NU, ISU, KU, KSU so as long as he doesnt commit on a visit, KSU will get the last chance to make a lasting impression.

Gavin Meyers, his Hays teammate, is also visiting NU and KSU on the same dates. Although it looks like there is a prediction Meyers is favoring NU which would be bad for KSU to lose more KS players to a struggling NU team.

Of the 3 KS guys mentioned.... KSU needs to get 2 of 3 IMO. The staff has already whiffed on other in state targets... can't keep whiffing on guys that should be Kstate leans based on location & ties (like Hays). That is big part of why a lot of people wanted Snyder out.

And if you haven't seen... Kanak just ran a 10.37, 100m. For reference, that's exactly what D.K. Metcalf just ran in the Olympic trials. And Kanak is doing it as a HS Junior. Rumor is, Clemson has called. His recruitment is definitely blowing up... and rightfully so. His strength, size and speed combination is freakishly crazy.

Nobody could blame him for going to a Clemson, but c'mon fellas, will somebody please be the one to lead the charge of having some respect for your in state program'? This is the type of player that could get us back to top 20 type teams.

The problem is that top-rated kids like him go to schools like Clemson (where the top-rated kids from every other part of the country go to) and get buried in the depth chart until their junior year. Why not go to a P5 program where you can stand out and play early? JMO.

It's the glamour. It's sexy. He will likely play wherever he goes, but I'd like, just once, for a high profile kid to stay here and then be a vocal about recruiting other locals. If I was CK, this would be my recruiting pitch. "Be the guy that starts something special locally. Be the voice and the guy that restarts this program winning 9,10, 11 games."

I know one thing. We can't lose these types of recruiting battles over and over and expect to be anything other than a 7 or 8 win program. Our staff needs to win this one.

I just hope he is EMAW. That may be our only chance.

KSU was Kanak's first scholarship offer, before he blew up, before other schools saw him for what he could be. 1 month before KU, who just offered everyone KSU was offering at the time and 5+ months before the next offer from a P5 school in NU. KSU also has his former teammate on the roster in Haselhorst. And I think KSU and NU are the only teams offering both him, and his current teammate Meyers so they could both choose to play together. Clemson will have no interest in other Hays players, or very many, if any, other KS players he may know.

If he is going to be swayed away from a last second Clemson offer, who as of now will make him pay his own way on an unoffical visit (as he already booked his officials and would have to cancel one) then there is nothing more that KSU could do.

If I were him I would stay home and be a Wildcat. I have no use for the Clemsons of the world.
