In a perfect world, everyone would choose hard work, morals and ethics over obscene money and fame. And everyone outside of Lowrents would be required to be a red blooded, card carrying Payhawk hater.
We knew the NIL would get out of hand. I guess this is something many were aware of. Here is how it was being explained by Rich Eisen.

Getting ugly already. As TO said, time to get your popcorn ready. I am actually loving this. Not for the young man. If he was promised $$$ then he should get it. But loving the implosion of the whole dirty, smarmy, Bill Self of it all.

Did not think about it, but to my knowledge there are no contracts being written? So when a kid is offered a million dollars, that 3rd party can pay that out in part by allowing the kid to stay in a house rent free, have access to a vehicle rent free. etc. They need to get a handle on this quick as the lawsuits are starting to pile up.
Even players that had graduated before the NIL are now going after their former schools.

The toothless, nutless NCAA is going to do NOTHING of consequence in any of this. They have proven their ineptness over and over in anything that actually matters. The ruse of "student"-athlete at many of these places is coming to the surface. It's sad that kids are stuck in the middle of it. And that they are all learning about GREED in this way. But it is what it is. And what it is, is going be unwatchable in a very short period of time at this rate. I am sure I can find other things to do with my time, but I used to really love COLLEGE athletics. As imperfect as it was, it was a lot better before this slow and steady destruction of amateur athletics started to wash all over the landscape.Jax wrote: ↑September 25th, 2024, 3:45 pmDid not think about it, but to my knowledge there are no contracts being written? And the idiots trying to milk anyone for $$$$ for something that happened years ago are fools. That's like going to your current employer, that just raised wages across the board last week, and demanding you get that wage back dated to 10 years ago. Yeah, good luck with that.

Surely have needed NIL guard rails in place for a long time - but not seeing anything effective in the pipeline anytime soon. "Amateur athletics" anyone? And Reggie Bush . . . really?!?

Any good judge should toss Reggies case out. That was pre-NIL. he's fortunate he got his Heisman trophy back when they were known to have cheated when he got it.
Seems simple and straightforward to me. But I guess that would make too much sense.

A coach with an amount of integrity will avoid those players. To quit on a team mid season means they are not the kind of guys wanted in locker rooms. I didn't read a whole lot into it, but I would venture a guess there is some kind of agent behind some of this.
Good luck to them, but I have a feeling that after this all washes out, we'll never hear about these guys again. They are gonna wish they'd have handled this differently.
