Good win. Hoping the coaching staff uses this bye week to evaluate what we do going forward this season as clearly we have areas of strength and weakness. One thing we have to do against CU after the bye week, is NOT play zone coverage. We played great once we did what we are good at.
I hope you are right. I hate to be the Debbie Downer, but KState under Kleiman hasn't been great coming off of bye weeks.

Avery received a “helmet sticker” on ESPN’s “College Football Final” show.

Pick 'Em

Post by tmcats » September 29th, 2024, 9:53 am

sunday morning afterthoughts without checking yours:

1. it was hot in there, thankful for the north breeze;
2. oSu made some strange quarterback run calls at the most inopportune times;
3. ollie gordon runover put v.j. in some serious pain, thankfully he recovered;
4. d.j. giddons was by far the best running back in that game 187 yards to ollie's 86;
5. jacob parrish was really solid after the first quarter of the game, his interception was next level quality coverage;
6. i sensed k-state wore the pokes out with depth;
7. avery got better yesterday chucking (19-31) and seeing openings for his run game (60 yards) - funny listening to the crowd implore him to run;
8. jayce was wide open on the td catch, i'll have to see the replay to know if he juked the defender or he was just that bad in coverage;
9. simon mcclannan (do you know who he is?) well, he did a fine job with kickoffs through the end zone and that's not to be taken lightly;
10. klieman seldom loses two in a row.

It looked like one oSu defender accidentally tripped the other one, causing the defender to stumble and Jayce to be wide open. I would have to go back and look at the replay again, to be sure.

You are exactly right. We had 2 WRs on that side of the field and they crossed routes but definitely not a pick play. The defenders were in man coverage and the two defenders tripped each other thus getting Jayce wide open. Avery threw the ball right when the defenders tripped, so Jayce wasn't wide open when the released the ball and thus Avery couldn't just throw it out there in the open. He threw it as if the defenders were going to be on Jayce. It was breezy and the wind may have had a little bit of impact on the throw. Jayce made a great play on the ball and made the catch.

I really thought that ball was overthrown but Jayce made a great catch!

Ollie Gordon had 72 rushing yards on 8 carries at the end of the first quarter, by my count. 3 of those carries were for 60 yds (27, 24, 9). The rest of the night he only had 7 carries for just over 10 yds.
Shutting him down was huge. He is a powerful back.

Someone earlier thread said he got nicked up on a play after his monster start. After that I didn't see his number/name called that much. I'll have to rewatch the game to find out more.

Pick 'Em

Post by DeereCatFan » September 29th, 2024, 7:44 pm

I hope as many of you have said Klanderman goes man with maybe a plus for hunter in 2 weeks. The defense starts so damn slow every game. Once 42pts and solid lead most starters need to be out. No idea why Avery was in there for at least 1 series maybe 2 after they were at 42. Uso was as well and that's what can happen. Hopefully he's alright.
Nice bounce back win. Focus on Buffs and get over the hump on bye weeks.
