Right now, Johnson reminds me of Jake Locker. How Avery develops as a passer will naturally dictate his professional fate. He has a long way to go imo....Kstate00 wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 1:26 amTrue. But those two turnovers were on him. He's still a huge threat due to his mobility but I'm just not seeing him playing beyond college at this point. Maybe he develops that over the next year or two but he might not either.Ksuminnesotacat wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 1:20 am
To be fair there were a ton of dropped balls. Tonight….

At this point, I think it's Iowa State and Utah. We screwed the pooch tonight. Hard! Tonight's loss was damn embarrassing.NECatFan wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 12:45 amYou must think we’re going undefeated the rest of the way, if you’re counting on playing for the big 12 championship. Is that correct?Ksuminnesotacat wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 12:37 amGuys who actually thought we would go undefeated this year… come on… it’s one game it happens learn from it and move on. We could be 0-3 we will be 3-1 a lot t play for… and no we didn’t have better receivers in 1981 I was there….

I'd add to that "especially when the Cats are 3-0."wild@nite wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 1:30 amI love Klieman, but his teams don't seem to handle being the frontrunner worth a damn. I won't be surprised if we win by 20 next week, which iwill be more frustrating as heck. Tonight's loss goes back to 2nd and 5, up 3-0, while running it down their throat, and we decide to get fancy, instead of just hammering it in. We settled for a fg and gave them confidence. All downhill from there. I was yelling at the TV! Just keep pounding it. We gave them life and, well.... you know the rest.Fullypersuaded wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 12:44 amThe weakest... weakest... weakest performance in Klieman's tenure. #13 getting beat down like this?
Avery Johnson is no Heisman candidate, so let's just end that bs. He's young and extremely green. I don't think he is where he needs to be at seeing the field as a play develops. That being said, I am still glad he's on our favorite team. Dylan Edwards, too.
After reading through all the posts, in my mind, as badly as they played last night, reality has slapped the team in the face. Talented enough to win? Yes. Ready for all kinds of adversity? No. And BYU is not a bad team by any means. Classic situation where young men are convinced about their own hype.
I think it is time for the coaching staff to be brutally honest with the team and themselves, They need to assess where they want to end up and how they are going to get there. Those firsts are out of the way now: Int, DJ fumble, late game in a hostile environment.
The kid gloves need to come off. I don't think holding AJ back is going to be the answer. And they better start giving those other 2 QBs some reps with the 1s.
Edwards needs more touches. Cephus needs to catch the ball. The defense needs to be dialed in. Defensive backs need to know their own rules for the defense they are running. If you are running a cover 2, the 1 receiver is going vertical, and the 2 is going vertical, the corner HAS TO COVER 1 GOING VERTICAL. Outside backer has the flats. And teams usually run the ball when they see two high safties unless they know the Dbacks are not following their rules.
Limiting explosives for the defense HAS to be a priority at this point. And no team in the Big 12 can be over looked. They all need to wake up.

Was watching the post game interview. Started looking into the comments.
This one struck me: "When you say you have guys that are invested, A LOT of fans are financially invested in NIL. This is embarrassing"

It’s very difficult in this league to hold a home team that is pretty good to under 250 yards of total offense. It’s also very difficult to dominate the game statistically like we did and lose as bad as we did. That’s what undisciplined football gets you. I think if we play these guys 10 times we win more than we lose. Lots of things to clean up and I think AJ will learn from this and get better.

I agree with what you're saying minus the BYU is a pretty good team. I think they're middle of the road at best and will take some lumps this year. I really felt the Cats were the better team and would win 8 or 9 of 10. Not trying to sound like sour grapes just really feel that way. Just too many stupid mistakes. And if you hold Avery back this is what you get. So either play him to his strengths or go with someone because you don't want him hurt. Makes no sense to me. And yes gets some reps on 2 and 3 qbs.bigpurpleman wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 7:17 amIt’s very difficult in this league to hold a home team that is pretty good to under 250 yards of total offense. And yes I could see the Cats winning by 20 against the pokes which will be frustrating should that happen.

Tough loss... many mistakes & errors that can be corrected. It's high time the offense adapts to Avery's strengths. He needs to have 15-20 designed QB runs or option type plays per game to keep the defense honest. KSU needs to acknowledge this fact & move on to Okie State. This league will likely have a championshipship winner with 1-2 losses when everything is said and done.
Not sure who's going to take out Utah; their schedule is pretty gravy, with Iowa State being the only currently ranked team left on the slate. I hate a newcomer with an attitude to waltz in and take the Conference, but so far they're walking the walk.KSUbetcha wrote: ↑September 22nd, 2024, 10:37 amTough loss... many mistakes & errors that can be corrected. As for Avery, he's a running QB. If KSU is going to hamstring him and not let him play to his potential, I can see him leaving for another team that will pay him AND let Avery be Avery. Sometimes playing not to lose can result in a major loss. Surely they have some depth at QB, that they can let him loose, and take a few risks. Let the kid play his game.
