further to my point above, this is either truth or rationalization 101.

That is exactly what I was thinking. I don't believe that Goff was caught off guard that the stadium part of Phase 2 needs to be completed first to allow the necessary space for the rest to be completed. I believe this is an announcement that was strategically timed using the local media as pawns to put the word out. Phase 1 is now to the point where people can look at what is physically there and see that it is going to be really good. I believe this "news" is a strategically timed catalyst to start building momentum for the funding of Phase 2.

a lot of X chatter about all this. fact remains, k-state athetics has taken zero state dollars. ku has taken $85 million. yes, this chaps my ass as a taxpayer, ex-public official, and emaw.

The $150 million in private funding, to receive that $50 million from the state, is possible because of a backstop guarantee from the KU Endowment Association. The association’s board of trustees executive committee has already approved that. Overall, the estimated $335 million total in the application is broken up into the $50 million from the grant, $35 from “ARPA funds appropriated to KU by the 2022 Legislature” and $250 million in private funding topekacj

My Repeat Rant
KU Cancer Research donations go to KU Endowment. Now they have an option where you can specify your donation is used for cancer research. But the interest made off that donation is not specified. KU Cancer Research needs to have a separate fund, just like the Williams Fund.

I predict Goff's Goof is going to get $400,000,000 from KU Endowment. That has always been the financial backstop to this wish upon a star project. Gov Kelly and Lt Gov/Commerce Sec Tolbert are in the middle of this mess.

KU had the game in hand, but went ultra-conservative to melt the clock and it bit them in the butt. All three of those losses could have easily been wins.

During the 4th quarter, I lurked on both teams' game threads. Not a lot of love with either team for their coaches and players, but WVU fans walked away happier. The Phog is melting down.

I am confused. Are you insinuating that KU is going to use money endowed for cancer on their new conference system? I don't like KU spending taxpayer $$ on football stadium renovations given we didn't, but I can live with it since the University of Kansas is the crown jewel, the light on the hill, of our regents system

But to pay for a conference center, a hotel and restaurants with taxpayer money is sickening and why aren't local conference centers, hotels and restaurants throwing a.fit?

this is always a conundrum for local governments in college towns. k-state's north corridor buildings are serving private interests with public money. the k-state foundation built and operate them. if the next phase, which includes a hotel, does not get economic development money from the state to match ku's, i'll be surprised. it's a very similar concept, executed better. btw, it will surely have a pedestrian bridge over kimbell which will be cool.

I truly wish this project had a rooftop sports bar, partially enclosed, partially not (for spring, summer, fall). An area to eat, drink, and mingle, with big screen TV's (I mean big....), that overlooked the Bill. It would be a great thing for road game gatherings, bowl games, and NCAA tourney games.
