Big 12 Warned to Not Get in the Way of Adjusting CFB Playoff: Report
While conference realignment has both benefitted and hurt certain aspects of college football this offseason, one major change on everyone’s mind is the impact of expansion on the College Football Playoff.

According to a recent report from the New York Post’s Ryan Glasspiegel, sources claim that any conference not named the SEC or the Big Ten attempting to get in the way of how the two leagues construct the future playoff is risking “Pac-12-ing themselves” out of the tournament.

“One source cautioned to The Post that the other conferences risk implosion along the lines of the Pac-12, which greatly overvalued itself in network rights negotiations, if they stand too obstinately in the way of what the Big Ten and SEC want,” Glasspiegel writes.

The original rules of the expanded CFP Playoff included a 12-team field made up of the six highest-ranked conference champions, and six at-large bids. With the Pac-12 Conference facing either its inevitable doom or a merger with the Mountain West, the expanded college football playoff rules have been put under the microscope with the loss of a “worthy” conference champion coming out of the PAC-12.

While the rules will undoubtedly be reviewed and adjusted, the current CFP selection process is about as close to unfair as it can be. While six at-large bids and six conference champions would have made for a great playoff, I would expect things to flip around in order to cater to that of the two leagues at the top.

The College Football Playoff Committee is set for an official meeting on August 30th, and while official changes to the expanded playoff may take a while to agree to terms on, as the Brett Yormark and the Big 12 continue to increase their notoriety in college athletics, the decision to cater to the top could get a bit trickier.

Sounds to me that they are the ones who feel threatened by Yormark and the Big 12. The Big Ten and SEC have their master plan to become the only two power conferences, but Yormark is disrupting their plans and they don't like it. :D

The other eight FBS conferences need to band together to stand up to the Big Ten and SEC to make sure they have access to the playoffs.

I think the SEC and B1G (to some extent) want two leagues similar to NFL where premiere teams exists and vie for the national championship. There is one problem.... the likes of Vandy, Rutgers, Northwestern, etc.) are not considered premiere teams. In fact I think it is arguable that with the exception of the Georgia (currently) and Alabama's of the world, the Big XII can compete with the rest on any given Saturday.

As Fitz says, limiting the playoffs to two conferences will destroy college sports as we know it. Only a handful of schools west of the Mississippi will be represented. Too many fans of non-SEC and B1G teams that follow their respective teams, for television networks to let this happen. JMHO.

all we have to do (the Big XII) is put together fun, exciting football. EFF the $EC and B1G... they can toss their weight around all they want.
eventually, they'll have to play no one else but themselves to keep the 'dream alive': they they are the apex.

they step outside their league and mix it up with 'the great unwashed' and get their feelings/pride hurt... and the facade crumbles all around them.

Personally? I just no longer care about the B1G and the $EC. the Big XII is a LOT more interesting/fun. the recent era of 'we play everybody' was/IS the way leagues should conduct themselves.

cough cough #$EC...

and E$PN would do well to rethink themselves. but i suspect that horse is outta the barn.
they'll be like NUBBIE fans: basking in the glow of PAST glory. but make no mistake, their best days are definitely in the rear view...

Agreed, I would hope that Yormark and other big12 leaders will have a backbone and push back on this playoff selection bs. Conference Champion auto bids make sense, but the B1G/sec wants all of the control....Don't let them have it. Thankfully I think Yormark is the right guy to push back on all of this.

I'd tell them that they can do as they please, but we are out if they do. Time to stop being their whipping boys ala punching bags. Get the rest of D1 teams together and demand an equal place at the table. What is and has been going on is garbage! The sooner the vast majority of D1 teams demand their rights the better. Either they play fairly or we get the ef away from them ASAP.

I agree. Who wants to be part of a rigged system? I think there is strength in numbers with the rest of the FBS schools.

I get what you're saying and agree that the rest of d1 should stick together, but I feel like breaking away from everybody else is exactly what the big10/sec want.

The Big 10/SEC Commissioners would not say this without the blessings of Disney, Fox, CBS, and NBC.

They won't admit it, but E$PN is already being hurt a bit by they way they are paying for things to be. They have had to do some restructuring and let people go. They are a bit top heavy kind of like the payments for the different TV rights. We all know things that are top heavy usually end up falling over. If it was possible I would like ESPN to just go away and for another sports network to rebuild college sports entertainment.
