Space for Transfer Portal Guys?

Post by RLundin » November 29th, 2022, 4:06 pm

How many scholarships does it looks like KSU might be saving for Transfer Portal Guys this year? It would be nice to add several immediate impact guys for next year in key positions where we are really loosing guys. WR comes to mind for me. KSU's new passing game might be attractive for some WRs.

I was thinking it might be a complete rebuilding year next year but with a returning QB, maybe we can reload for next year and not rebuild.

It will depend on how many leave, a number we don't know yet.

Yes, the WR position will need an immediate impact guy. We stand to lose our top 3 WR. While I belive guys like Lockett and Garcia are viable replacements it would be nice to get an experienced taller receiver to compliment them.

Winning Saturday, and the Sugar Bowl, could go a long way in attracting Transfer Portal guys. Lovett from Mizzou would be a huge get, and instant impact. We have some East St Louis history as well (mostly basketball) so that could help.
But let's face it, the transfer portal is going to continue to grow, so there will be plenty of talent out there. Luckily we are extremely attractive due to on field success, coaching, and portal success (Yeast, Brents, Warner, etc)

if you saw/watched the senior day celebration, you see how many potential openings we have/will have. (what a great class!)

hcck has said previously that he'd leave up to ten scholarships open for portal guys. the recruiting game has indeed changed. and i might add, it has served a good purpose of bringing some parity to the field. k-state is a classic example. isu hoops last year. and perhaps ours this season.

Don't the portal guys you sign count against the 25 new scholarships per year number or did that change? I thought there was some new rule to allow you to get above the 25 max if you had x number of portal guys leave.

I think the rule has changed so that you can sign as many as you want, but you only have 85 scholarships total for the team.

Does anyone know what the rule is now. Last year they had a one time exception that if you lost guys to the portal you could sign up to 7 extra guys. Thus you could potentially sign 25+7=32 that year. Is it back to 25 per year now. The transfer portal really hurts High School players since teams each sign 5-10 transfers each year. These 5-10 take away scholarships to High School kids. The 85 max has always been in place.
