Re: How to divide the new Big 12

There were many reasons why I made the divisions (which does not exactly follow the east/west or north/south divisions) and 2 permanent cross-rivals (instead of 1).

1 As BIG-PAC-ACC alliance suggested that they are planning to play non-con games among themselves, we might not be able to find 2 P5 opponents. We might actually have to pair up with SEC to find a P5 opponent. Then, the idea is to play a CUSA/MAC opponent and one FCS opponent.

2. In my division, all schools play at least 2 Texas schools in football each year. This creates a balance that is also achievable by using a East/West division but that create another problem: too many new schools in a division. Ideally, divisions should have 2 texas schools in each and 2 new teams in each.

3. Also, using 2 cross-rivals make sure that a school always play schools that are "near by" (Impossible for UCF and BYU)!

4. I think the divisions are as balanced as can be achieved in both Football and Basketball.

5. We get to play KU in football and avoid playing them twice in basketball. :D

Old and New divisions places the biggest travel burden on teams in the New.

Still think if the expansion goes beyond 12 that Colorado State needs in: All those TVs east of the Mts.

adding csu with byu would put considerable pressure on the p12. for us, i just don't want to lose the k-state/isu/ku rivalries to divisional nonsense.
Why is there something rather than nothing?

Are you suggesting going to 14 teams and add Colorado State and somebody like Boise State? I'm game if so.

Go to 14 teams with pods. Keep ISU, KU, KSU and OSU (the original 4) in the same pod

I just pointed out the travel disparity of the Old and New divisions.

I think the long-range potential for CSU is worth considering.

Here's an option that splits the Texas schools.

Old School Division: BU, OSU, KU, KSU, ISU, TTU
New School Division: BYU, TCU, UH, UCF, WVU, UC

I agree with the 8 conference games (5 divisional, 3 cross division). Schedule a home and an away game every year with a P5 school (SEC?), and then two G4/5 games.
riffing on that thought: working with PAC and ACC teams might be a good place to 'go'.

no need to support the B1G and hell's no to the SEC. speaking from my emotional place. might get regular armed services groups? navy, airforce? Notre Dame? in the rotation?
ACC/B1G/PAC may fill all their P4/5 OOC games from the Alliance, so we might be left with just the SEC. I would prefer teams from the Alliance for a few years.

I just saw a BYU youtube channel, The "MonteShow" and he was saying that his sources from BYU said that BYU and the Big12 have been talking since a month or two before Texas and Oklahoma announced that they were leaving. He also said that his sources said that the divisions will be:

West - TCU, Baylor, Texas Tech. Houston, Iowa State and BYU
East - Kansas State, KU, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Central Florida and Cincinnati

Take that for what it's worth.
OSU would pitch a royal fit with this alignment.

Agreed. Old vs New was just an alignment for discussion. Travel for the "New" teams would be bad. It will be interesting how divisions are set. I could see this:

West: BYU, OSU, BU, TTU, TCU, UH
East: KU, KSU, ISU, WVU, UC, UCF

Personally, I would split the Texas teams, 2 in each division.

Yeah. May be move at least one texas school in the other pod.
