Re: goings-on at other football programs ...
A year removed from leading Florida to the SEC championship game and playing eventual national champion Alabama as close as anyone, Dan Mullen was fired as the Gators' football coach on Sunday.
Florida athletic director Scott Stricklin said he woke up on Sunday morning, having had only a few hours of sleep after getting back from the team's 24-23 overtime loss at Missouri, certain that a change needed to be made. It was the team's fourth consecutive loss to a Power 5 opponent. Dating back to the final three games of the 2020 season, the Gators are 2-9 against Power 5 opponents. espn

Dan Mullen finished his Florida tenure 34-15. His .694 winning percentage was the highest of any coach there not named Spurrier or Meyer since 1924.
Best of luck to the next guy.

if he leaves, k-state would certainly be an option.

That is ridiculous for a rivalry game. The Stanford vs. Cal game had a similar looking crowd. I really believe the Pac-12 made a mistake by not expanding with Big 12 schools when the news came out last summer that OU and UT were leaving for the SEC. If you remember, the early rumor was that K-State, oSu, ISU, and TTU were going to the Pac-12 to be in the Eastern Division with CU, Utah, and the AZ schools and the CA, OR, and WA schools would make up the Western Division.
But then the Pac-12 came out and announced that they were not expanding at this time. Those four Big 12 schools would have given the Pac-12 four schools in the Central Time Zone, with passionate fan bases. Oh well. The Big 12 has moved on with its own expansion.

I enjoy our expansion but it was a missed opportunity by the Pac-12 for sure. Undeniably, it had the potential to create a flashy conference with new rivalries and the top dogs of the irate 8. USC had done some much needed renovations recently. Not sure how much it improved the stadium, but there just must not be a lot of interest when the team is a perennial disappointment. Chip finally has UCLA on the up again, but the Rose Bowl is not on the main campus and with basketball back, lot of fans might focus on that until there's a Rose Bowl esque season. Potential for sure though.stlcatfan wrote: ↑November 23rd, 2021, 5:58 pmThat is ridiculous for a rivalry game. The Stanford vs. Cal game had a similar looking crowd. Cal and Stanford have really fallen off, with Cal especially just letting things get worse. The Central Time Zone was their big chance since Utah always draws a faithful crowd, Colorado would get their old rivalries back and Oregon would get a tougher, more exciting division to theoretically play in when UCLA/USC move over to consolidate the Pacific Time Zone schools.
