tells me that someone came calling and liberty didn't want to lose him. both hcck and gene taylor got huge bumps for the same reason a year or so ago. money seems like an endless unit train.

Yeah that’s pretty wild to see that kind of money being offered to the Liberty head football coach. Wow.

Yep. Between facilities and coaches' salaries -- especially coaches' salaries, college football has become an arms race. Assistant coaches are now making 7-figure salaries. Crazy.

usc, lsu, florida, washington, v'tech, tcu, washington state are just the power 5 head coaching jobs now open. and by the way, that's how i'd rank their desirability and value. matt campbell, billy napier, bill o'brian, and dave aranda have to be making agents happy talk presently. i wonder if matt wells might end up in pullman? seems like someone kirk schulz would like.

The University of Texas athletic department will begin paying athletes directly a maximum-allowable total of $5,980 per academic year as a result of legislative changes tied a recent U.S. Supreme Court decision, the school announced.

Starting with the 2022 spring semester, all “eligible” athletes — those who are cleared for competition — will receive $2,990. The second payment of $2,990 will be made in the fall semester.

These direct payments, legally deemed to be “additional financial assistance,” were made possible by recent NCAA and Big 12 rule changes that stem from the Alston v. NCAA decision reached by the Supreme Court in June.

“We’ll announce a new football facility soon,” Houston athletic director Chris Pezman tells PaperCity. “You’re not missing anything (here). We’ve eliminated a lot of excuses why you can’t stay home. You can’t rest on it. There’s always something else we have to work on.

“But we’re setting ourselves up for our best days to be ahead. Which is saying something right now considering the success we’re having.”

The brand new football building will be the program’s version of the Guy V. Lewis Development Facility that the men’s and women’s basketball programs share. It is expected to include a plush locker room, team meeting areas, academic facilities, office space and more. With the much larger roster sizes in football, it figures to be bigger than the $25 million, 53,000-square-foot Guy V. Lewis center.
