another ranking ... we suck ...

46. Kansas State
Chris Klieman delivered one of the best debuts by a new coach last fall, guiding K-State to an 8-5 finish and a winning record (5-4) in Big 12 games. Klieman will have his work cut out this offseason, as the Wildcats return just nine starters and face five Big 12 contests — including swing games against West Virginia, TCU and Baylor — on the road. Finishing in the top half of the Big 12 requires a rebuild in the trenches. All five starters along the offensive line are gone, and the defense only brings back one (Wyatt Hubert) off a group that ranked eighth in the conference versus the run. Quarterback Skylar Thompson is primed for a big senior year, and Klieman's defense can build around a solid group of linebackers and secondary this fall.

When a just above average team graduates 8 of their 9 line starters, it takes a kool aid guzzler to have high expectations for them. The 2 consecutive years Snyder and staff basically took recruiting season off realistically could be very damaging to the KSU record in the 2020 & 2021 seasons.

Seems about the norm to be placed 7th in the Big 12, near TCU. And with 78 teams making bowl games, I read this as saying KSU is a bowl team. I don't think it's a horrible assessment on KSU with the unknowns on the lines. I'm glad this publication isn't buying the TCU hype though, but they are another one drinking the ISU kool aid.

Agreed. Maybe if we wouldn't piss down our leg in 2 out of every 3 bowl games, we would get some momentus love going into the following year. On top of that, I have a great big yawn for preseason polls... Since 1990, we've proven them wrong about 25 times.

Who cares? The season will play out. If the “real” KSU fans think we are undervalued, take the mortgage and bet it all on purple or STFU. I think we are solid. If you take out the OU game, we had a nice season, despite losing to Navy in the sloppiest bowl game since BC in the Aloha Bowl. I expect a 7-5 season with a surprise win and loss.

Last time I checked KSU Beat A&M And UCLA in 2016, 2017 bowl games.

Cool, I'm well aware I embellished a bit, but not much. 9-13 overall, and in 22 tries, only twice have we won 2 in a row. I really don't care too much about low level bowl games, but losing to a one man show last year, when our OC appeared to take most of the night off, multiplied with losing 90% of our starters in the trenches garners much preseason respect how? Do I believe we will be better than 7th? Yes, but writers are lazy and write based on returning starters and previous recruiting rankings. Based on those two things, plus over half of the league returning their starting QB's and most having higher recruiting rankings, why are we always surprised writers pick us low?

I'm fine with being picked low. Must be used to it. I guess I'd rather it be that way then vice-versa. Agreed on ISU koolaid time and again but this year I dont see much strength or depth in the conference. I certainly think the Cats are capable of beating any of the conference teams. And I hope they can keep another streak against ISU intact. Makes it so much easier to live in Des Moines area.
I just hope they play, but not necessarily expecting it.

agree, deere. this club has a chance to be really, really good. it all depends on if the o'line comes together quickly. massie/wyatt on the edge are going to be a load, in front of a really fine linebacking corp, and solid secondary. offensive skill positions are deep, particularly if last year's injuries go away, e.g. knowles. tight end with the addition of briley moore will be a strength for once. and special teams will be the league's best, maybe the nation's. koolaid my ass, i don't get the crape-hanging forecasts.
