Re: KSU vs Tulane
All can say is, we had better not be taking the approach of "keeping it vanilla" or "not putting stuff on tape prior to conference play" going into this game. We had better come in with bad intentions of opening a fresh can of whoop ass. Every game matters now and each week you gotta bring the heat. We had our 1 tune up game. That's come and gone. Tulane is a big step up in competition level from UTM. And Arizona will be a leap up over Tulane the following week. There are no easy games left on the schedule. If that means Avery has to run the ball 15 times in the game in order to win, then Avery has to run the ball 15 times in the game. That's why you train in the offseason.
This teams needs to have laser focus like they did going into the bowl game against NC State.

K-State will likely have a game plan- already templated for this matchup against Tulane. If things go well at the beginning and the Cats have success early, that's a good thing, in my opinion; if things don't go well then K-State needs to make in-game adjustments on the fly & not wait until halftime to start changing gears. KSU has to take what the Tulane defense is giving them, if they load the box with 8 dudes, then we've got to adjust to shorter passes in the flat & over the defense to compensate. If Avery's got to tuck and run it to move the chains then so be it. He seems to be pretty agile and fluid (not to mention damn fast) and not taking a lot of head on hits like Colin Klein did back in the day.Tbonespop wrote: ↑September 4th, 2024, 8:11 pmAll can say is, we had better not be taking the approach of "keeping it vanilla" or "not putting stuff on tape prior to conference play" going into this game. To be the best, you've got to beat the best. If we don't win this tough test in this "roadie" game, then we don't have any business being considered for any post-season championship. Iron sharpens iron. So, this challenge will likely provide a lot of evidence on the team having championship DNA, or not. Success leaves clues!

I would doubt much of the preseason prep time was spent on Tennessee Martin and a lot on Tulane. Road game in a tiny stadium (I'd guess this is the smallest venue we have played in since our 1997 visit to Huskie Stadium at Northern Illinois) should be interesting. I am not real worried about this game. Tulane is coached by the guy who was at Troy last season and we handled them very easily. Establish the run game early, take the crowd out of the game and have a rather stress free afternoon. The only drama seems to be the usual Fitz and Kurtz stuff about wanting new uniforms for the game and getting the younger fans riled up against the current regime.

Sounds like thunderstorms are in the forecast for Saturday morning. Depending on when they move through, we may be seeing some weather delays early on.

I just checked The Weather Channel and now the forecast is for thunderstorms for almost the entire day. New Orleans is currently under a flood watch.MileHighWillie wrote: ↑September 6th, 2024, 3:15 pmI sure hope so, I have to work and will miss the first half. Hope it gets delayed a couple hours, haha
Update: I just checked the forecast again this morning and they have taken the thunderstorms out of the forecast. It will still be wet, but more light rain rather than thunderstorms.

The Tulane QB is a RS freshman making his second start of his career. He was a low 3* QB recruit out of HS and his only other offer outside of Tulane was Idaho State. We need to pressure him and keep pressure with our secondary - meaning the last thing we should do is give a big cushion. Play <5 yards off the LOS and make him be perfect. Force them into being 1 dimensional. Don't let him get comfortable. Speed him up. Don't let him get into progressions. Confuse him on pre-snap reads.
The #1 WR is a former USC Trojan and prior to that was 1 year at OU. He can make plays, but lets face it. If he was that GREAT he woudn't have transferred two times to different schools and ultimately end up at Tulane so he could get playing time. He's a respectable WR, but nothing we should lose sleep about.
Their RB is a true JR who was a low 3* kid out of HS with offers to: Army, App State, Austin Peay, and Charlotte. Not a bad kid by any means, but he wouldn't be in the top 4 running backs at KSU.
If we can't contain their skill players and keep them off the scoreboard, we are going to have a hellava time in B12 play, especially against Arizona next Friday night. Our defense looked strong and deep last weekend and if we build off of the UTM win, we should be holding Tulane to 17-20 points.
I gotta believe with our offense playing to their talent level that we can put up +30 points (might be less if the weather is bad - but that would hurt Tulane too). I like us in this game by 2 TDs.
