so which has a better season: pigskin, hoops, wbb?

Post by tmcats » July 31st, 2024, 6:43 pm

i am really struggling with this because ...

1. football is getting all the hype both regionally and nationally. avery has done what was necessary in the off-season going to an elite throwing camp and gaining 20#. klieman goes portal to fill in holes - nothing knew. the defense looks like it could be nails. two of the best running backs in the country. speed to burn. what's not to like here?

2. hoops is absolutely loaded. dean wade says this is among the most athletic college teams he's ever seen. dean should know, right? potentially a marquis-lite-wizard at point guard getting some tough love here not seen at M. huge front line that can run the floor. shooters. and they are old which is paramount to winning at the elite level. then coach puts a $2 million cherry on top at the end.

3. wbb is getting absolutely no pub whatsoever. but that goes with the game, i guess. but it's just as power-packed as the other two assuming yoki comes back full bore. if she's healthy, she's not stopped. surround her with maybe the best point guard named serena in the league, the twins, two now-sophomore budding stars in sides and walker, and a kennedy transfer, whelp, this outfit is going to be a handful.

so i guess i'll take the well-seasoned women to win the conference. football second because avery is still a youngster. and tang's group in the upper tier to go deepest in the tournament because that's just what they do, but it will take some time for them to meld. wbb, football, mbb - that's how i see it rolling. you?

All 3 are capable of beating KU.
It is like choosing a favorite child.
Maybe volleyball will surprise us also.
Great time to be a Wildcat.
I vote MBB to answer the question.

This one is easy -

Worst - WBB, Mittie is a mediocre Coach to be kind. The CU, ISU, UT games at the end of the season he was taken to the wood shed. He has had the best big in the Big XII for 5 years and the best he has done is 3rd. We get a home game against a CU team that was dreadful down the stretch and got out coached in the 2nd half.

Women's Volleyball - I am throwing this sport into this mix. Our best hitter, Ms Carter is coming back. We have picked up some quality additions and the 2nd year of a new Coach is normally the time when there is the greatest improvement.

MBB - I am concerned about the huge turnover and having this group mesh. Also rebounding could be a major issue.

Best FB - We will be able to run the ball even when the box is stacked. When an offense can do that it opens up big plays, allows the Defense to rest, and control the clock. Special Teams could be special again. I am concerned with our Linebackers.

WBB, FB, VB, MBB in that order. This is NOT intended as a knock against Coach Tang or his team. I absolutely love Coach Tang and believe is a the right man for the job at KSU. I just feel Big 12 MBB is so stacked and uber competitive that it makes it difficult to finish at the top, even with a quality, tourney-bound team.

With Texas gone, women's VB can make a real push for the top two or three spots in the conference

OU & Texas WBB gone really helps our ladies in their quest for a conference championship

FB - Coach Klieman is building something special in MHK.

Sorry to get off track here but just curious, why would you think rebounding could be a major issue, WE? I haven't studied the individual prowess, but we are very long and athletic.

Mittie is just like Patterson in that he is going to miss the window of opportunity at "great" (as in final 4) team because he can't get a dominant PG. I mean a PG that can take over a game by pushing in transition and "creates" scoring opportunities for others. Patterson had an awesome front line, but never had a PG that dribble penetrant and create. This is a must to be a championship caliber team. See Marquis Nowell vs last our team last year, for example. There was nobody that create opportunities.

Shalee Lehning was a pretty salty guard, as I recall.

Yes, but she wasn't on the teams that were loaded with talent. Ohlde, Wecker, Mahoney, Koehn. If you put Lehning on that team, they are final 4 bound. That's my point. I believe this womens team will be very good, like them, but I believe they are missing a key piece. We shall see, but I know when you have a dominant post, teams will counter that defensively. You gotta have dynamic guards if you wanna be a final 4 team.

My basis for that is who plays the 5 position. If it is David, I am concerned. I am not sure Onyenso is a 30+ minute a game player. I do not know about Baye Fall.
There are many questions on 2024/25 MBB. It is a total turnover so it will be a learning process. I have total faith in the Coaching Staff. We will be competitive.
