2020 Kansas State Volleyball

Post by cutshot » March 9th, 2020, 9:06 pm

Time to kick off a 2020 thread.

KSU volleyball from the spring game on Instagram. Looks like Aliyah (New OH) can hammer it from the left side. Small sample size and not against a huge block, but impressive.

I thought KSU had to get another setter since dixon graduated and smith is no longer on the roster. Transfer from ECU. Will have to wait to see if this is for the starting spot or running a 6-2 (though we lack an additional opp right now).

The transfer setter will probably start. They will definitely need a leader with experience. Carlson or Bonde will be OPP.

Carlson will play on one of the college USA teams.

Bonde looks like she was playing OPP in the scrimmage game and play a bit there last season when they were running 6-2 later. Mutiri transfering to OR is a big loss.

Cats got #23 class for this year. last year was #20 and the prev year to that was #26. Lost some talent from the prev classes due to transfer and medical. Not a lot to show in terms of wins though the last 2 years:(

yep . they have a short video on her on the twitter as well. not much really. also listed as OPP as well though fritz talk in terms of OH.
Hope the team can turn it around after several lackluster years.

Big12 post schedule for 2020 volleyball. Teams will play each other 2x during a weekend. No out of conf and K-state will play at Bramlage.

2x ISU, 2x @ WVU, 2x Texas, 2x OU, 2x@ KU, 2x TTech, 2x TCU, 2x @Baylor

Baylor and Texas are going to be really good (Baylor just got another transfer from UC berkley)

Remember KSU lost Mutiri and A Smith in the off season to Oregon and Mizzu respectively. Sarah Dixon, M. Weber, and P. Williams graduated and we also lost K.Smith due to transfer.

We gain S. Martin (S) from transfer and incoming freshman Morris (L-DS), Carter (OH), Mati (OH/Opp), Nembhard (OH), Fernholz (MB)

I would guess that Martin doesn't transfer without being able to start. I'm guessing KSU will try to do 6-2 at least part of the time, but this may depend on having another Opposite. I'm not sure Mati in on campus just from all the Instagram/twitter photos/videos.

Setter- Martin (S1), Adam-Kaonohi (S2)
OH- Carlson (OH1), Carter (OH2)
MB- Vernon (MB1), Fernholz (MB2)
Opp- Bonde (OPP1), Mati (???)
L- Kuck/Hinkle
DS- Hinkle/Kuck/Smith/Morris

I'm going to guess ~ 5-6 wins this year unless the team made major strides. I thought coach would be on the hot seat this year, but maybe it is a pass year unless it goes really bad.

Anyone with anymore info or thoughts?
