Pete Hughes New Baseball Coach
Pete Hughes New Baseball Coach
Pretty surprising hire, a poor conference record in his last two stops. I (the few and proud) am a huge baseball fan. Not too jazzed by this Gene Taylor hire. Walk me off the ledge guys, Coach Hughes was 102-99 at Boston College, 78-130 at Virginia Tech and 44-51 at Oklahoma. Those are his conference records.

I don't follow baseball as closely as you do, but it was weird that we (at least I) heard nothing about potential replacements for Coach Hill, and then out of the blue, this hire. Interesting.
Anyway, best of luck to him in his time at K-State.

I think many fans were anticipating a more "youthful" coach. At 50 years of age, he is just a couple years younger than Hill. With the conference record he brings, he will have to step it up to improve upon what he has performed in the past. Hopefully he can recruit. We wish his success!
I am with Oscar, this does not look to be a good hire. All I ever heard from Sooner Nation was how bad a coach he was, and how inaccessible he was to the media.

at first glance, this doesn't look good. thankfully, currie filled most of the openings before he left including mbb, wbb, golf, tennis.
track and football remain rock solid. not sure about v'ball. but she has had success.
this baseball hire may look like ku football should in some ways though. hire a journeyman capable of getting the program back on track.
hill lost his mojo. who knows how or why?
maybe this guy has the nads to get baseball to a competitive basis. if not, nothing much lost, i guess.
overall, underwhelming, to put it mildly. but curious to see how taylor's first hire works out for the program. taylor is so un-currie-like.

I work with a an OU fan and he laughed out loud saying "Now you are stuck with him. He was a terrible coach at OU." I don't see anything to get excited about with this hire.

Looking back over his career record, it looks like he has had some success (e.g., 651-490-1 overall record and two-time Big East Coach of the Year). Hopefully, K-State will be the right situation for him to find success again.
Looking at the records at his past stops, it looks like most of the schools improved over time, while he was there.
Get good assistants and good recruits and we will start winning again. K-State putting major $$$ toward baseball facilities will help in that endeavor.

If the Gooners hated him, then I already like him. Go Coach Hughes.

I would like to have seen a more youthful coach for this sport. Surely there were any number of 30-somethings from lower division programs that would have jumped at the opportunity. [ FWIW I am well over 60 ]. At least we finally have some youth in the FB program.
