2023 KSU Volleyball

Post by cutshot » February 1st, 2023, 11:08 pm

Starting the new thread for the 23 season. Certainly some excitement with the new coach bring back some good volleyball that escaped Fritz over the last 5-6 years.
First Transfer is:

Liz Gregorski OH from Wisconsin. She had some injury issues and didn't play much for them at all. Anyone have more info on her potential ?

Found this about her.

From what little else I found she’s a former walkon. Has had several knee issues. Seems to specialize with serving.

When is the new facility opening?

Are they using it?

They are supposed to use it for the start of the season. I would think this means they are practicing in it when fall practice starts, but i'm not sure if it is ahead or behind schedule. A couple weeks they had a video of the team taking a tour and most of the inside still had a fair amount of work left.

I would like to see KSU publish the number of tickets and other revenue it would need to sell to break even on WBB, VB, Soccer, and Baseball.

We have just accepted that FB and MBB are the only sports that will be profitable. We never look at how to minimize loss with the other sports.

I believe there are a lot of “partial” scholarships. Unfortunately, that isn’t enough to overcome the costs. Of course, if KState were to field national championship-caliber secondary sports, many more fans would attend. Not sure they could ever become positive revenue, though.

In 2018, their (Nebraska) volleyball revenue jumped up to $4.23 million, before tapering off in 2019 with $4.21 million. The program continued to operate in the green, spending about $3.36 million in 2018 and just under $4 million in 2019 ...

KSU got Transfer Izzi Szulczewski from Oregon State. She is a 5'7" setter, but spent a lot of last year as a hitter. She will have 2 yrs left to play. She did get honorable mention in the Pac12 last year. This certainly brings an extra twist to what offense Coach Mansfield is going to run.

Short offseason update:
We finished Spring ball with a 3-1 win over Omaha. We also beat Wichita State and Minnesota. I know it is spring ball and tough to really get any good take always, but the win against Minnesota gives me some hope. I would have expected them to throttle KSU even in the spring games.
Several good comments about our players in that game.

Gregorski (incoming transfer in from Wisconsin, played well in their spring games and got some shout outs for Wisconsin coach and fans).

We got another commit for the 2024 season - Alyss Kelly DS/L from Washington
