Re: Cats baseball listed as a team to watch
This coming year could be the make or break year for Pete Hughes. Losing key recruits doesn’t bode well. He’s been here long enough to be expected to field a competitive team. Of course, whether the AD has higher expectations and gives two cents for lesser sports is debatable.

Well, Hughes did make NCAAs for the first time in his fourth year at OU (and then he promptly was fired). So, perhaps year No. 4 will be the charm at K-State too.

Yeah I have no idea what to think about Hughes. I’ve definitely questioned his in game situation management. But I do like his attitude of not being afraid to talk about the CWS or that being the goal. I do realize you need to actually do something to really give the fan base the belief it’s realistic.
I’m not sure he’s really lost any “key” recruits, except to the draft like every program does. As I think about the Willman departure I’m wondering if that was more Willman’s doing because he wants to play shortstop? He was the SS last year in the shortened season and began this past year as SS. But it’s obvious he’s not getting it back. But unless the Lobo’s have someone leaving I’m not sure he’s going to find time at SS there either. They had two guys play SS against us in the 4 games played, one hit .314 and the other hit .364 and they were soph and frosh respectively. Unless one or both if them found a better opportunity elsewhere that position seems pretty full.
** revised- I just noticed their SS was drafted in the 11th round by St Louis. The guy who split with him played 3rd. So maybe Kam is going there to play SS.

Just saw on Twitter that we added a transfer pitcher from Arkansas named Blake Adams. I didn't do a ton of research but he made two starts and two relief appearances in 2020 Covid shortened season as a freshman but I don't know if he pitched at all this year or not. He looked to be pretty highly rated as a high school player from Springdale Arkansas. He was the #1 rated player in Arkansas in the 2019 in class it looks like. Hopefully he can reach that potential at KSU.
Cat's starters have traditionally had some problems throwing strikes.... He'll fit in
You're actually right, my memory must be busted. KSU was in bottom 4 for walks allowed.
