Just got a notification on my phone that K-State beat Utah 13-2 today.
The box score shows that we scored 11 of those runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings.

Game 18 vs Utah - no walk off required as the Cats blast the Utes 13-2.
Utes got on the board first with a run in the first. Really should not have been, as a misplayed ball by Madliak in left allowed the base runner to get to second and then a base hit scored him. Otherwise it would have been a zero. But the Cat answered in the 2nd with 4 runs and the Bear making up for his mistake by blasting a ball through the winds coming in from left for a 2 run homer to go up 4-1. In the 3rd inning the Cats got even greedier and put up 7, with Martin, who was hitting in the 9 hole today, hitting a grand slam out of center field being the big blow to go up 11-1. O’’Connor also got into the home run act with one in the 4th to make it 12-1 And then frosh Smolinski drove in a run in the 7th to put the Cats up 13-2.
Quevedo pitched 6 strong innings, giving up 2 runs on 8 hits, but only should have been one run without the fielding error in the first. He struck out 7 and didn’t walk anyone. Brady Roe got the final 3 innings and didn’t give up a run, striking out one and walking one. But it did get a little iffy when he entered in the 6th as he walked a batter then hit a batter and had two on with no outs. But he got a ground ball to Kennedy who just barely missed turning a triple play, as the runner going to first just barely beat out the throw.
The frosh Evasco continues to stroke it as he lead the hitting going 3-5. Kennedy, Martin, O’Connor and Madliak all with 2 hits each. Cats have two hitting over .400 now with Martin .439 and Evasco .400 and three over .300 with Lodice .349, O’Connor .326 and Kennedy .319. Madliak is .296 and Inoue .281.
Sheffield to get the start tomorrow. Game time 1pm. Cats are 11-7 going for win #12 tomorrow.

Safety. Runners are supposed to hit the outside orange bag unless going for extra bases. Fielders take the inside bag. Meant to help prevent being stepped on and collisions.

Awesome! Also a nice day for an afternoon game. Sunshine, light winds, and seasonal temps.

Haven't you ever heard of a 2 bagger?

Cats edge Tarleton State 7-6. Two run home run in the top of the 8th was the winner.

Game 20 vs Tarteton St, Cats win 7-6 and move to 13-7.
I didn’t get in on the game until the 8th inning. It apparently was a back and forth affair. Cats got on the board first with 2 in the first. The Texans got one in the 1st and two in the 2nd to take a 3-2 lead. Cats took the lead back and Tartleton tied it at 5 going to the 8th where I joined it. With 2 out and a runner on 2nd Keegan O’Connor blasted a ball to the opposite field for a homer to go up 7-5. It left in a hurry. In the bottom Butler came in and got an out and then allowed a hit to right that was terribly played by Evasco, allowing it to go to the wall and instead of a single was a triple. The next batter hit what would have been a routine inning ending double play ball to Martin at short, but only got the 2nd out and a run scored to cut it to 7-6. Butler got out of the inning and in the 9th Kennedy singled with 2 outs but couldn’t be moved. Butler faced the top of the lineup in the bottom and took them down 1-2-3 to close it out.
Cats had 8 hits with Kennedy the only one to collect two. Martin and O’Connor both with 2 run homers. The offense is playing pretty well but the one guy who’s really struggling is the returnee English. He’s the only one getting regular AB’s that’s under.200 at .164.
Lewis got the start but only pitched one inning, giving up one hit and one run and walking two. Ruhl went 2.2 giving up 3 runs on 6 hits with 1 K and two wild pitches. Duke went 2.1 and didn’t give up any hits or runs and struck out 4. Dean pitched 1.1 giving up a homer while striking out 2 and walking 1. And Butler got the last two innings giving up 1 hit and 1 unearned run while striking out 2.
That’s the first true road win for Cats this year and a much better mid week outing. Now off to Baylor who went 1-2 at ku last week, but has been very good at home. Hopefully the Cats can collect 2-3 more wins this weekend and stay at the top of the standings.
