Leavitt isn't too old. He's got at least a good 10 years left in him. He could be a very good coach during that time to develop someone within the program to be a very good long term, stable coach of the program for decades down the road. There's actually more risk with a young and moderately unproven young coach than there is with an older more experienced coach. To me, there's extremely low risk with Leavitt. But maybe not the potential upside. Litrell - more potential upside but more risk too.

The fact that Skylar Thompson started following not just Litrell but the entire offense staff (OC, QB coach, etc) on twitter yesterday is very telling folks.

All good points and I wouldn't have a problem with Leavitt. He's been a successful head coach and great defensive coordinator. Littrell is 40 and seems like we need a young successful guy to lead this thing again in my flawed opinion. As a Denton, TX resident I've seen him turnaround this North Texas program that was a toilet when he got it from McCarney so I'm a little biased.
It's ok to favor Litrell, no explanation needed. I just didn't want to discount Leavitt due to his age. I have some friends in the Pac 12 that want Leavitt OUT of the Pac 12, which is a statement of respect. Either are solid choices.

As important as recruiting, we need to find a guy who can hire and retain competent assistants. As good as many of our assistants have been, we have also has some less than stellar coaches.

Dennis Dodd says Leavitt would crawl to Manhattan...LOL!! He didn't seem to think we have a #1 in line yet with many candidates out there.

The trick would be to find another young future hall of fame coach who stays at KSU for his whole career.

That's great. I want someone who wants to be here. They may stay for a while.

Even though we got off to a later start than some other schools (KU, TTU, and UNC), there are still a lot of good coaches potentially available, albeit mostly in the G5 and FCS ranks.
