Velton Gardner - Decommit

Post by ajcksu82 » November 8th, 2018, 1:14 pm

The Skyline, TX Dual QB, who was the 2nd best player in the 9 person class so far and the 2nd player to give a verbal, has decommited from K-State and the 2019 class drops to 8 verbals.

K-State was recruiting him to play WR, as he was a bit undersized to play QB at 5'9" but was quick and shifty.

Gave his verbal before even visiting K-State. Started to blow up this last year. Maybe he wants to play QB somewhere? He was a good pickup at the time, getting him over Texas Tech, Colorado, SMU, North Texas, Syracuse and others. K-State was thought to be done with WRs in the next class, now will likely need another WR.

I wander if KSU isnt getting away from the undersized players altogether. They won't recruit a local kid because of height. And he is an absolute stud.

Bummer about the decommit. I hope it is not true that we are not recruiting "undersized" players, even if talented. Yeah, a 5'9 QB may not work in the Big 12 (unless we go to the option), but we have had plenty of 5'9 and under WRs, DBs, and RBs that have been successful here and have even gone on to the NFL. Does the name Darren Sproles ring a bell?

With people continually calling for the coach to be fired this is not a shock. Fatzgerald really has stirred things up as well as others in media. It’s time for Taylor to emerge from hiding and Myers to get off the couch and make a statement.

I believe very few are calling for Coach to be fired. Many are calling for Coach to gracefully retire.

Sucks to lose somebody but as long as it's not a trend, i'm not worrying. Kids decommit early from every program, every year.

We're not a destination anymore. We're last resort.

I know you guys don't want to hear this, or even care right now, but he committed to Tech this morning.

Best of luck to him. I don't fault him for his choices. I'm just glad he did it sooner, rather than later. We have had good recruits pull the plug on us in the 11th hour, messing things up for us.

Don't blame him right now. From Texas and our program is on shaky ground.
